November 2025 Newsletter

Autumn greetings from The Yoga Shala Seattle! The days are getting shorter, and we’re heading into hibernation mode, but we still have some fun updates for you and a few things to look forward to in the new year!

Welcoming Our New Teachers with Winter Schedule Shifts

Our 2025 teacher training cohort recently graduated, and we could not be prouder of their hard work! To make room for them in our weekly class schedule, we have two exciting updates: On Thursdays at 6:00 PM, Joy will lead a weekly Half Primary class, and on Saturdays at 10:30 AM, Gretchen will lead a beginner-friendly Ashtanga Fundamentals class.

Come check out these offerings and support our new teachers!

200-hour Yoga Teacher Training for 2026

Inspired by our new teachers, and wondering how you can learn more about sharing the practice? You’re in luck because Brendan and Christiane are taking applications for the 2026 edition of their 200-hour+ training based on a progressive approach to Ashtanga vinyasa yoga.

Running from March to September, the training includes weekly practice requirements, along with seven weekend learning modules that delve into deeper study. The course will explore the principles of the Ashtanga vinyasa method, yoga history and philosophy, functional anatomy, the art of hands-on assists, as well as best practices and techniques to facilitate yoga classes. This is not a typical yoga teacher training; it is intended to prepare you to support students making their foray into the Ashtanga vinyasa method.

Community Update from Bali

Have you noticed that the Shala has been a bit empty lately? That’s because a large chunk of our crew escaped the Seattle cold for a tropical adventure in Bali! They’ve been having the best time with daily practice and workshops, as well as enjoying all the smoothie bowls and coconuts they can eat and excursions to waterfalls and beautiful rice paddies.

Sad you’re missing out? Read on to learn about Brendan and Christiane’s next adventure to beautiful Baja, Mexico.

Second Series Practice Intensive in Baja, Mexico

Join Brendan and Christaine from March 18th to 22nd for a special offering: a practice-intensive retreat intended to dive deep into the Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Yoga. This experience is designed for practitioners who are exploring the second series, as well as for teachers looking into deepening their understanding of the asanas and energetic qualities of Nadhi Shodana. Merch Design Contest!

It's almost time for our winter merch order (don't worry, there will be sweatshirts!), but this time we want to do something a little different and create a design that honors our cherished Friday COGA ritual. To this end, we're holding the first-ever Yoga Shala Merch Design Contest!

If you're feeling artsy, send your best coffee/yoga-inspired design to info@theyogashala.com by November 16th! Remember that the designs will be printed in a single color, and the artwork should be large enough to scale well for printing. We're so excited to see what you come up with!
